7th April 2008
I have just finished potting up 24 of the Wingfield family into 5 inch pots and along with the Luxfords they are in the cold greenhose before they go into the cold frames. The weather forecast predicts a frost later in the week so I will have to keep my eye on them. I stopped the second batch of Wingfields on 5th April so we will have to see if Ian Rankines system as described in last weeks diary works for me. As well as the parent Pink Peach and Yellow I also have Honey but that was a later cutting so it hasn't as yet got the required leaves to enable me to stop it but as soon as it has it will be stopped.
Later on today I will be potting on Liverpool Festival and Trident. Yesterday they got well watered in preparation for today. It means that the roots should not tear when they are knocked out of the 31/2 pots.
Last weekend I finished potting on the plants for Harrogate 227 in all. All I have to do know is label them all!!!
Most of the sprays have rooted so they will be potted up later this week.
If you have read the Spring Bulletin yet you may have noticed that a Bill Holden was registered as a 14a at the Chester Millennium show. Harry Lawson has named it after my dad. It is pink and is out of Lundy and Mona Davis. Halls of Heddon are putting it out in 2009. I grew 4 plants of it last year but this year I have 30. I am growing 10 as an early of which 5 will be in the ground and 5 in pots with a 5th April stop. The other 20 will be grown as lates. 8 with 2 stops 8 with 1 stop and the remaining 4 on a natural break.

I started digging ther allotment last week but as usual I suffered the day after but you have to start sometime.
This Saturday I will be at the Northern Group meeting so I'll let you know what happens.
