3rd March 2008
Hi, I'm back again after another weeks break. My webmaster has been on holiday so hopefully we will be back to a weekly diary.
On the 26th I gave them a spray with B9 growth retardant and today they got a spray against greenfly, better to be safe than sorry. Today I have also potted up the cuttings that were taken on 29/1 with only ones taken on 6/2 and 18/2 to go. I knocked out a couple of the plants that were potted 31/2 on 6/2 and the roots are just getting to nearly the bottom of the pot.
John Peace sent me some unrooted early cuttings down last week so that I can root them for sale at the Harrogate Spring Show. I put in 160.
John Nevill's talk at Scunthorpe on Hybridising was interesting and I shall be taking on board some of his ideas. The cuttings that I have taken for my go at hybridising were given there first stop last week.Interestingly they look some of the best plants in the greenhouse when they should look the worse!!!
North West Counties had there A.G.M. last wednesday. The Committee were voted back en-bloc with one addition. What a suprise. We also agreed to increase the prize money for both the early and late league to £100 for the winning Society. It aplies to this year only as the N.W.C.has held the League for 50 years on behalf of the R.B.S. The Northern Group held their A.G.M. on Saturday and similarly to the N.W.C. the Officers were voted back en-bloc.
My 1st attempt at a Chrysant bowl:
