13th April 2009
Last time i wrote I said I would be putting the plants in 5 inch pots into the coldframe. I have decided against that and will keep them in the greenhouse until they go into the finals. I went to Scunthorpe on the 4th of April to listen to Brian Powell from Scarbourgh. Very interesting and there was just short of 50 people there.
I've had a pleasant surprise this last week when three of my readers emailed me for information. Two of them were people that grew chrysanths a few years ago and have decided to grow some this year. Hopefully I can put them on the right track. The third person was looking for some cuttings of the John Hughes family. Again, I managed to supply him with them.
Since I last wrote, I have potted on into 5 inch, 7 Trident, 3 Kay Woolman, 6 Yellow Kay Woolman, 4 David Macnamara, 5 Bill Holden, 6 Olwyn, 2 Amber Olwyn, 1 Grace Holden, 3 Masons Bronze and 30 John Wingfield and family. They all went into the soil that I mixed a couple of months ago. I also potted on three Roy Coopland into half B and Q multipurpose, and half my soil mix, As per Steve Joyce's method for growing Roy Coopland. I have stopped Masons Bronze, Mundial and Grace Holden ( As an early) on the 1st of April. I stopped Bill Holden and Roy Coopland on the 5th of April, and Baltic Amber on the 10th of April. On the 2nd of April I grow slowed all plants that I had potted up into 3 1/s since the 20th of January.
Today I am spraying wit Rose clear as part of my spraying programme. The pictures show Mundial ready for potting into 5 inch. The plants that will be going to Harrogate and two pictures of the plants that are in 5 inch pots in my greenhouse.
