Got some more stools from Len Whitehouse and Fred Chafer along with some cuttings from Keith Atkinson and Angie Seymour.I think that I have all that I need for myself and to supply other growers from our Society.
I started taking cuttings on 16/1 and finished today 6/3. I root in 1/3 John Innes No1 , Perlite, Peat.
I have been to 2 sponsored Northern Group do's so far this year. The first was at Spen Valley where John Peace was the speaker and the other one was put on by the NWCCS at Denton with Ken Harrop the speaker. Both very enjoyable.
In between had a week in Cornwall and a few days in the Lakes.
Been to 3 AGM's in the last couple of weeks including the NWC. Northwich have unfortunately folded due to the fact that no one will take on the Secretary's role so they have given us a donation which we have decided to put towards the Leagues. So from this year the prize money will be £50 £25 and £ 10 for both early and late Leagues.
I have started to pot into 31/2. I went to Keith Atkinsons to use his cement mixer to mix the soil which is made up as follows 5 parts sterilised loam 2 parts peat and 1 part 4mm grit. To each bushel (8 gallon ) is added 2oz Antagon 2oz John Innes Base and 4oz Seagold.
I am growing 9 of my main varieties so I am potting up 14 of each. I soak my pots the day prior to potting.
