1st December 2009
Well its the end of another season. I am quite pleased with my efforts bearing in mind the problems with my health that I had. I am pleased to report that I have got a clean bill of health. I finished with medals for the best vase at Southport and the best blooms in the leagues at the National, North West Counties and Northern Group at Brodsworth. The varieties were Kay Woolman,Olwyn ,Olwyn and Amber Olwyn respectively.
I have decided next year to continue to grow all my lates at home and increase the numbers to 100 from 88.I am reducing the varieties that I grow and therefore increasing the number of each to give me a better choice when it comes to show time. I am not growing any Japs, Singles or Anemones' but concentrating on 3,4,and 5's.I am aiming for the same classes at the National as this year and I am having a go at a couple of the Millar family.
I have grown some very good Hughes but have experienced the usual problem of them spotting. Is there anybody out there who can help me solve the problem?
I have just put up some staging in the greenhouse so it wont be long before the propagation bench goes in and then its all guns firing for the start of another season.
I can't wait.
