28th October 2008
Last Monday was the Sowerby Bridge early late show. Only 8 vases and 30 people turned up but a good night was had by all. John Waddington from over the hill i.e. Lancashire won the best vase with a vase of Wingfields.
On Friday evening I went to Southport and back with a vase of Candy Wingfield which were very nice apart from them been covered with White Rust. If you remember from last week Trish was going to come with me and we were going to stay the night but she is having problems with her eyes so she couldn't go. I had to return a couple of trophies from last year so I had to go.
Sunday John and I went to Chester Millennium where we met Keith Atkinson. Unfortunately we were the only Society in the Society class but we weren't aware of that when we set off. We have won that class 6 out the last 7 years.
As an added bonus however my Trident in our entry was awarded the Best Large /Medium in the show. I am very chuffed as I haven't won anything like that before. I was presented with the Chester medal which is very beautiful.
I also registered a Yellow Seedling 15b named Grace Holden after my mother. Pictures of it are at the bottom of the diary along with Trident Grace will be available in 2010.
This Thursday night will find John and me at Stafford with our 6 flowers for the League class back in the early hours and then I am judging Middleton with Ken Harrop. Before that on Wednesday night I am giving a talk at Southowram.
I might take some to Hebden Bridge on Friday. They have gone to a one day show so it will be interesting to see what happens.
Saturday John and I will be on the road again to see how we have done at the National at Stafford. We will be staying to the end so that we can fill the car up with flowers for North West Counties which is on next Tuesday.
