20th October 2008
I have to start the diary with some sad news. I'm afraid to have to tell you that Bill Wade died last Saturday a nicer person you could not meet. I will miss him.
Oldham and Scunthorpe had their shows last week with Len Whitehouse continuing his fine vain of form with a nice vase of Alyson Peace. Oldham was a little disappointing but you can only take what you have got. However I do feel that people should support other shows rather than just their own.
The Northern Group meeting was held on Saturday and I was surprised to learn that the Chester Millennium Show was in difficulties due to it losing two of its main sponsors. Bearing in mind that they only took it on when Woolmans moved I think that something should be done to save it as it seen by many as the first of the premier shows. If there is anyone or business out there who has any spare cash I am sure they will only be to glad to take it off you.
It's the Sowerby Bridge bar top on Monday with I think very few flowers. At least 40 people tucking into pie and peas and a couple of quizzes with a raffle to help offset costs.
This Friday night sees me and Trish at Southport for their show on Saturday and Sunday with no flowers but a couple of trophies that I have to return.
On Sunday me and John are on our way at 7.30 to Chester with our exhibit for the Society Class.
The pictures this week show Peter Fawcett's Green Satin in his greenhouse. The other photos are Trident David McNamara and general views of how the others have progressed from last week.
In addition there are two pictures of John Swift's Harry Tolly taken on the 20th.
