11th January 2010
Happy new year everyone and a good growing season.
I usually start taking cuttings on the 6th January but I have not been able to get my second soil heating cable up and running but I suppose a week at this end of the season will not make lot of difference. For my cuttings I make up a mixture of 1/3 of each of the following; peat perlite and John Innes no1. I have my best flush of cuttings that I have had for a long time.
As I wrote in a previous diary I am concentrating on 3 4 and 5's.I have imported Bryony Wade from Eric Swinton, Rose and Cerise Pat Millar from Len Whitehouse, Miollie Matthews a 2010 novelty from John Peace, and Pauline White from Barry Parker.
I have kept Kay Woolman 3 of the John Hughes family Bill Holden 2 of the Olwyn family Woolmans Venture Wingfield Roy Coopland Primrose Charles Tandy and Grace Holden as well as Liverpool Festival and 3 of the Wingfield family as earlies.I intend to grow 102 Lates and 24 earlies all at home.
I have got a new computer this week so hopefully I can get some pictures on the Diary. The 4 that I have put on this time are 2 showing the cuttings on the soil heating cable and 2 showing the snow that is still hear on the 11th of January
Last Saturdays Northern Group meeting was cancelled because of the weather but I am hopefully going to Scunthorpe on Wednesday for their meeting. The Northern Group have a do this Saturday at the Priory Campus Pontefract Road Lundwood Barnsley where Ivor Mace will be the speaker. Its on from 1.30 to tp 5.30 at a cost of £4 with a hot meal provided. If you want to go give Barry Hogg a ring on 01302722501.
Thats all for now I will try to get back to a weekly diary this year.
