13th July 2007 - Top Dressing

Picture shows a handful of top dressing ready to be put into the pot. The original soil level should have been 2 to 3 inches from the top of the pot to enable me to get it on. The reason for the fresh compost, which is the same as the original compost, is to give the plant a boost when the bud is being formed. Buds are usually taken, secured, during August. If you knew when you took the bud last year simply count back 28 days and then top dress the plant. Even though you cannot see the buds in the growing point they will have started to 28 days before you secure them.
